Back in July Amazon released a firmware update that added a "read now" feature to the before you go section found in the back of Kindle ebooks. Now they are adding a couple additional quick access features.
Earlier this week Amazon released the 5.12.2 Kindle update. It's a three-number update, which tells us it is a relatively minor update, and in fact the changelog only mentions two new features.
- Read Now from the Store: In the coming weeks you will be able to read items you own with a single click from the detail or thank you page on the Store.
- Read Now for Kindle Unlimited/Prime Reading: In the coming weeks you will be able to read Kindle Unlimited/Prime Reading items with a single click from the recommendations listed at the end of your book.
- Performance improvements, bug fixes, and other general enhancements.
Neither feature is completely new; in fact, the first is essentially the same as a feature we've had in the web browser for years.
But one important different between this update and the last is that this update is only available for the Oasis, Voyage, the last three (of four) generations of the Paperwhite, and the basic Kindle.
